Our founder and scent designer, Frederick Bouchardy, created three original scents meant to “paint the air:” Acqua Alta, L’Enveloppe and Nymphaea. In celebration of L’Rain’s new album Fata Morgana, SoS collaborated with @joyastudio , @wythehotel and @turrelljames to create a world where the album could be experienced in a connected and multi-dimensional way - including a bespoke fragrance element related to the album’s themes. Fans traveled together by caravan through Brooklyn, listening to the record from beginning to end, before arriving at Wythe Hotel with paper and art supplies in hand to create reflections that will become a zine. It was an evening of drinks, conversation, connection, and a few unexpected sensory interventions, including an ice block that encased the record and two scents created specifically for the experience with our friends at Joya. As Taja shared about the fragrance creation: “We wanted to create a world around the record and a scent that felt like a unique way to do that, inspired by the Rose of Jericho as the album is. The Rose of Jericho - a symbol of resilience - has no scent, so we set out to imagine what it could smell like in an alternate universe. I’m hugely grateful to Joya for opening their studio to explore this idea!” That exploration became: Rose of Jericho, imagining the dry, sun-baked plant through dried rose, green stems, sandalwood and amber, and Freshwater, imagining the moment water brings it back to life through rain, grass, rosewater, wet soil and moss. Huge gratitude to Joya’s founder and scent designer Frederick Bouchardy for opening the studio to Taja, following an idea somewhere strange and beautiful, and creating something that could exist only for this night. And thank you to L’Rain, Wythe Hotel, everyone who helped bring this to life, and everyone who came willing to listen a little differently. Excited to continue the party with our soon to be announced event with SoS, L’Rain and Joya later this year.
